New Bible and Book Ministry
"There is a huge need for many good quality
books of various types across our world."

We would like to share with you an exciting new aspect to the work of Revival Movement Association. For this past year the directors and leaders of the work have been praying, studying and developing a new wing to our ministry. This has come about due to the fact that as we have travelled to many countries, and have entertained visitors from different parts of the world, we have been repeatedly asked about the possibility of getting Bibles and good Christian books for pastors and for people to be able to study for themselves. We have talked to many different Mission leaders from other countries asking for their opinion and everyone has been of one mind — that there is a tremendous need for Bibles and good quality books. We therefore have decided to commence a Bible and book ministry.

One of the major differences in this part of the ministry is that all of the Bibles and books will not be given free of charge. We have been advised that most people can afford a little bit of money for a Bible or for a book. Of course, in the countries in which we are working most people cannot afford the prices which we will normally pay for Bibles and books. So we have decided to sell the Bibles at subsidized rates so that the Bible will be priced according to what we feel people can afford. This may mean that we will charge different prices in different countries depending on the needs of the people.

One of the major problems of distributing Bibles free of charge is that often people will take a Bible but will not, necessarily, read the Bible – but simply leave it on the shelf! Whereas, if a person pays even a small amount of money for the Bible, they value the Bible and will be much more ready to take time to read it. The other major problem is that we cannot afford to give out free Bibles to everyone simply because of the huge numbers of people living in the countries where we work.

We therefore have decided to purchase large quantities of KJB Bibles at very good prices, and then ship these to the different Missions with whom we work with the Gospel literature that we are already printing.

Concerning books there is a huge need for many good quality books of various types such as commentaries, daily reading helps for preachers, Bible character studies, Christian living including subjects like prayer.

We have been very aware that there are huge numbers of books for sale and yet we are aware that many of these books in a few years time will not be for sale any longer. However, there are books which have stood the test of time and continue to be a real blessing to the many who read them. Some of the authors of these books are people like J C Ryle, C H Spurgeon, E M Bounds, R A Torrey, D L Moody, and many other great classical writers of years gone by. We therefore have decided to take these books and commence reprinting them as they contain such a wealth and depth of Christian experience.

To do this work we have taken on a new secretary, Miss Isobel Metcalfe. For the past 12 years she has worked with the CEF Specialized book ministry preparing the books for printing which Mr Sam Doherty has written. As he has now retired, Isobel was looking for a new ministry and we have been happy that she has joined our team of resetting the type for finishing afresh many of these books. There is a huge amount of work involved in preparing the text and getting it checked. Some of the work has involved changing Roman numerals. Also we have had to check the Bible references of each verse as we have been amazed with the number of mistakes in older books.

We also are very grateful to a team of volunteers who are helping us to proof-read these books at present. This is a very exacting job and we are very appreciative of all of the help of these friends.

One of the other aspects of publishing books is that there is a need to have a bright attractive design on the front of the book. Once again, the Lord has provided the necessary help for us in this regard. When Victor Cardoo came to visit us from Brazil later in the year, he brought with him a letter from Brazil requesting us to consider employing Mr Aramis as a graphic designer for the work of Revival Movement Association. As the whole work has continued to grow we have been discussing this particular need. So we have been very pleased to welcome Aramis to the team working from our depot in Brazil. For many years Aramis has been a graphic designer involved in Christian ministry and is also known as a writer and also has the gift of doing promotional work.

Due to modern technology with the internet we have no difficulty in communicating with him and we are delighted with the quality of work which he is producing. Each time we wish to get a new publication, such as a tract or a book cover, Aramis sends us a selection of designs and then our publication’s group pick the design which we feel is most appropriate.

One of the major issues which we have had to face concerning the reprinting of books is that we, in our factory, are not in a position to print quantities of books. Firstly, we do not have the correct equipment and, secondly, our printing presses are completely full of work and we already do have a backlog of requests.

We therefore have decided to get our books printed in India where printing costs are very low and yet good quality books are available. We have had quotations from three printers from within India. We are now finalizing our agreements as to which printer to use.

We are very concious that we do not want the Bible and Book ministry to take away from the present work of publishing Gospels of John, Gospel Tracts and Children’s Bible Lessons which are distributed free of charge. We are also aware that some of our friends may desire to support the Bible and Book ministry so we have decided to set up an account solely for this side of the ministry. This will be called “Revival Publishing”. Aramis has created a new logo for this purpose. Unless gifts are specifically given to the Bible and Book project then all gifts as normal will continue to be used for the printing of all of our Gospel Literature.

We would value your prayers that the Lord will give us His wisdom and guidance as we seek to develop this work.
