We are delighted that you want to know more about accepting the Lord Jesus Christ as your Saviour. Trusting Jesus is the best decision that anyone can make. To find out why, just click on, ‘Why Jesus’, a short booklet explaining who Jesus is, and how through Him we can be saved from our sins.

May we suggest that you read the booklet:

  • Somewhere quiet - Where you can be alone with God

  • Slowly - Thinking over what it says

  • Prayerfully - Asking that God would help you to understand His love for you

If you have realised that you need Jesus to save you from your sin:

  • Confess your Sin to God - In 1 John 1 v 9, God promises, ‘If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.’

  • Trust in Jesus as your Saviour - By simple faith, ask Jesus to be your saviour. The bible tells us that, ‘Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.’ (Acts 4 v 12) And come without doubts, believing Jesus’ promise that, ‘him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.’ (John 6 v 37)

  • Repent of your Sin - When we put your trust in Jesus as your Saviour, God gives us a new start. In the scriptures we are told, ‘Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.’ (2 Corinthians 5 v 17) Being a new creature in Christ involves trying to obey God each day through the way we live our lives. God has told us in His word, the Bible, how He wants us to live. Although we will never be perfect in this life, over time we should increasingly live in obedience to God’s word.

What now?

If you have made the decision to follow the Lord Jesus, it is important to confess to others that you are now a Christian. Other Christians will be able to encourage and guide you as you begin your journey as a Christian. It is also important for your family and friends to know from the outset that you have become a follower of Jesus, and you want to live from now on for Him.

How can I Grow as Christian?

In order to grow in your faith and to get to know God better, there are a number of things we can do:

  1. Read God’s word, the Bible - In the Bible God has told us all about who He is, how we can be saved, and how He wants us to live. The best place to start is in the Gospels, which are eye-witness accounts of the life of the Lord Jesus. As we read the Bible, God continues to speak to us and to encourage us as we walk with Him

  2. Pray - Prayer involves speaking to God. We can pray to God anywhere, anytime, and about anything. By praying with other Christians we can learn the sorts of things we should pray for. The remarkable thing is that God always listens to and answers prayer.

  3. Join a Church - A Church is a gathering of Christians who meet together to worship God. Church services often include singing praise to God, prayer and the preaching of God’s word. By belonging to a local church, we have the opportunity each week to draw near to God and to be encouraged by others in our walk with God.

Final Words…

Even though the Christian life is one full of peace and joy, it also has its challenges. The Christian has 3 great enemies which they will face as they seek to live for God, “the world,” “the flesh,” and “the devil”. “The world” includes the temptations we face around us to disobey God, and the opposition that we may encounter because of our faith in Jesus. “The flesh” speaks of the ongoing battle we experience within ourselves between our old nature, which wants to disobey God, and our new nature which wants to obey His word. “The devil” speaks of the author of sin, Satan. He is described in God’s word as a liar, a murderer, a thief and a temptor. In 1 Peter 5 v 8 we are told, “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.”

As Christians, we need to stand firm as we battle against these 3 great enemies. This battle is a lifelong one, but we are promised the victory through Jesus Christ.

Jesus said, “In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.” (John 16 v 33)
